Sebelum kita membahas lebih dalam tentang ROM dan Super User, mari kita bahas sedikit tentang arsitektur android. Agar sebuah perangkat komputasi untuk bekerja, diperlukan perangkat lunak yang mampy berinteraksi dengan perangkat keras / hardware. Hardware sendiri tidak dapat berbuat apa-apa kecuali diarahkan / diperintah untuk melakukan sesuatu. Arah / interaksi dengan hardware dilakukan melalui lapisan paling dalam dari sistem operasi yang dikenal sebagai kernel. Kernel dalam android adalah turunan dari kernel sistem operasi Linux.
